THE PERFECT POD TEACHER

Every pod is different and every teacher is unique. The personal and individual pairing of pod students and teachers is almost like parents getting to choose their student's teacher and teachers getting to choose their classroom. WOW! The perfect teacher for each pod brings their own special sauce that makes the pod distinctive. While we value uniqueness there are a few commonalities we look for in pod teachers.

  • Genuine Care for Students
  • Passion for Education
  • Commitment to Parent Partnership
  • Communication with Schools
  • Zero Tolerance Policy
Genuine Care for Students

Genuine Care for Students

You don't even know how to just "show up for a paycheck." You started teaching because you desire to make a difference. You know sometimes kids will be kids. You love them because of their nature, and not despite it. You want to foster their talents and teach them to channel them for good. Maybe you're burnt out because of district politics and policies (remember: they are doing their best with the options they have), but deep down the reason you decided to become a teacher is deeply ingrained.

Passion for Education

Passion for Education

You understand that education is more than what is read in a book or found on a syllabus. It is all encompassing intellectual, mental, physical, and social development that impacts children that will soon be our future leaders. You long to connect educational methods that guide students in finding "ah-ha" moments that join the developmental pieces. You appreciate that the process is not linear, and are able to manage the ebb and flow of change as life molds a child.

Commitment to Parent Partnership

Commitment to Parent Partnership

The best teachers internalize that parents are a lifelong asset for students. Long after you have seen them sail, parents stay to see them soar. Some parents will be an unwavering champion for their children...even when the child may need a little tough love. Others take a more hands-off parenting approach...even when the child may need a little more guidance before a fall. Our teachers understand that family dynamics - HUMAN DYNAMICS - are complex. They respect different parenting styles. In return, parents are expected to show the same understanding and respect for our teachers. The key to a good partnership is knowing your partner and communicating with them appropriately. Understanding that a positive parent/teacher partnership is crucial to successful well-rounded education is paramount for pod success.

Communication with Schools

Professional Communication with Schools

Smart pod teachers begin a pod with eyes wide open. Most are used to being the primary giver of classroom information and assignments. They take pride in student success and once upon a time may have been offended by a shared role. Pod teaching is different. Pod teachers augment the curriculum provided to the students from the district, and focus their teaching efforts on a more rounded educational approach. They cannot create new nor manipulate provided curriculum. They must follow material outlined by the district while exploring individualized methods for comprehension. Pod Connection will coordinate the tools needed for district communication, but teachers must use them to bring value to their pod. Open communication with district teachers on student progress, comprehension, individualized methods used to gain understanding, and constructive feedback, benefits both student and teachers.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Zero Tolerance for Discrimination or Harassment

Even good teachers have bad traits. Pod learning is a new journey for everyone, and we will evolve away from past foundations that created divide to create a fresh start free from discrimination and harassment. Pod Connection teachers should understand, without having to be asked or told (though we will anyway), that each student is unique and individual in their own way. Where appropriate those differences should merit appreciation. It should be clear that under no circumstances should children be treated differently - better or worse - based on (but not limited to) race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, martial status, citizenship, national origin, or genetic information. This extends to parents, employees, contractors, partners, sponsors, and vendors. Zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment should be more than a policy for Pod teachers. It should be a heart-felt approach to humanity.
